In jungen Jahren verliert Hyoubu zuerst seine Mutter und dann seinen Vater und lebt von da an als Adoptivsohn von Baron Tsubomi mit dessen Tochter Fujiko Tsubomi, die etwas älter als er ist, in dessen Anwesen.

Später tritt er der imperialen Spezialeinheit der japanischen Armee, die nur aus Espern besteht, bei, um seinen immer währenden Wunsch zu erfüllen seine Kräfte für Gutes zu verwenden, statt sie zu verstecken.
