Toren Smith ist ein junger, smarter Pilot im TOP-Geschwader der RX-7-Piloten und begegnet Noriko zum ersten Mal, als diese bei einer Mutprobe während eine Warp-Fluges verängstigt durch die Schiffskorridore wandert. Obwohl sie ihn anfänglich zurück weist, kommen sich die beiden mit der Zeit näher und bilden ein Team - bei ihrer ersten Außenmission kommt es allerdings zu einem Vorfall, der Noriko auf lange Zeit entscheidend beeinflusst.
