Kayuki ist die Hausangestellte bei Juichirou und Reika Aoki. Sie hält sich meist still im Hintergrund und erfüllt unauffällig ihre Pflichten, beobachtet dabei aber den Werdegang von Kaoru, dem Lehrling des Meisters, genau und erkennt in ihm großes Talent. Daher sorgt sie sich um ihn, als er nach dem Tod seines Meisters nur noch dessen Witwe im Kopf zu haben scheint und die Malerei vernachlässigt. Mit dem Verstorbenen verband sie im Übrigen ein Geheimnis, von dem niemand sonst etwas weiß...

Kayukis Mutter war auch schon Dienstmädchen von Juichirou Aoki und führte ein Beziehung mit ihm, woraus ein Kind erwuchs. Dennoch blieb sie immer sein Dienstmädchen und als er schließlich heiratete, beging sie aus Verzweiflung und unerfüllter Liebe Selbstmord. Kayuki hingegen wurde später von Juichirou missbraucht, weil sie ihrer Mutter immer ähnlicher zu sehen begann. Weil sie es nicht ertragen konnte, dass die Familie, die ihr noch geblieben war, aus einem Monster bestand, vergiftete sie ihren Peiniger.
