Kasumi ist zu Beginn der Geschichte die feste Freundin von Taichi Mashima. Sie lernten sich während ihrer Mittelschulzeit kennen, und weil sie Taichi beistand, nachdem er seine Lust an Karuta verloren hatte, wurden sie letztendlich ein Paar, was sie zu Beginn der Geschichte noch immer sind.

Nachdem Taichi aber durch Chihaya seine Lust am Karuta wiedergefunden hat und sich wenig später mehr darauf fokussieren will, beendet er die Beziehung mit Kasumi – und zwar kurz angebunden über Telefon.
