Masaki Oono gehört der Karuta-Mannschaft der Fujioka-West-Oberschule an und nimmt mit seinen Kameraden Shouji und Tajiri nun an seinem ersten großen Turnier teil. So sollte es zumindest sein, aber weil Tajiri aufgehalten wurde, haben sie nicht mehr die erforderliche Mindestanzahl an Spielen, weshalb ihnen die Disqualifikation droht. Masaki möchte aber unbedingt spielen, weil er sich schon seit langem auf dieses Turnier freut. Sein Traum wird wahr, als sich Arata bereit erklärt, sich illegalerweise als Taiji auszugeben.
