Die meisten Amerikaner verhalten sich sehr abwertend den Japanern gegenüber. Miguel ist da die einzige Ausnahme, der sie eigentlich nicht wie den letzten Dreck behandeln will. Zwar stellt er sich dafür nicht gegen seine eigenen Leute, hat aber aufmunternde Worte für die Betroffenen. Auch gefällt es ihm nicht, wie schmutzig Anderson kämpft. Aus diesem Grund akzeptiert er die Stelle als sein Second erst, als dieser bereit ist, fair zu boxen.
