Youko Kurama, ein Fuchsdämon, kühl und berechned, ist berühmt und gefürchtet in der Makai (Dämonenwelt) und ein Meisterdieb. Kein Gegenstand, kein Geheimnis und kein Wissen ist vor ihm sicher. Seine besondere Fähigkeit ist das Manipulieren aller Arten von Pflanzen.

Doch eines Tages, nachdem er von einem Dämonenjäger aus der Reikai (Geisterwelt) tödlich verletzt wurde, floh er mit letzter Kraft in die Menschenwelt, nistete sich in einem ungeborenen Menschen-Embryo ein und wurde als Shuuichi Minamino wiedergeboren.
