Haruhis verstorbene Mutter war eine sehr liebevolle und fürsorgliche Person, die alles erdenkliche für ihre Familie getan hat. Sie arbeitete früher als Anwältin und war nach Aussage Haruhis Vaters sehr schön und darüber hinaus auch noch intelligent. Auch wenn Haruhi noch sehr jung war, als ihre Mutter verstarb, kann sie sich noch recht gut an sie erinnern und es ist wohl so, dass beide sich sehr ähneln. Kotoko war auch die einzige Frau, die Ryouji, Haruhis Vater, jemals geliebt hat.
