Mizue Ichinose ist Kotomis verstorbene Mutter. Sie war eine wirklich liebevolle, fürsorgliche Mutter, die sich rührend um ihre kleine, hochbegabte Tochter gekümmert hat. Zusammen mit ihrem Ehemann Kotaro waren die beiden als äußerst erfolgreiche Professoren bekannt, die durch ihre Forschung das grundlegende Verständnis der Welt hätten ändern können. Leider stürzte ihr Flugzeug zur Vorstellungskonferenz ihrer Ergebnisse ab und beide starben. Alle Forschungsergebnisse wurden dabei zerstört und Kotomi verfiel in einen emotional abgeschotteten Zustand.
