Mail Jeevas, zunächst nur bekannt unter seinem Pseudonym Matt, das ihm übertragen wurde um sich vor Kira zu schützen, wuchs wie Near und Mello auch in dem Waisenhaus Wammy’s House auf, wo er aber selten auffiel.

Er ist ein guter Freund von Mello und unterstützt ihn bei seinen unkonventionellen Aktionen, mit dem Ziel L’s nächster Nachfolger zu werden. Nach Near und Mello galt er als der dritte Nachfolger von L, jedoch kommen seine geistigen Fähigkeiten nur selten zum Vorschein. Matt ist ein Typ, der immer leicht desinteressiert erscheint - hat er nichts zu tun, vertreibt er sich die Zeit mit Videospielen.
