Diego ist der Sohn von Alejandro de la Vega und der Adoptivbruder von Bernardo. Er zeigt sich als faul, feige und schwerfällig um besser seine geheime Identität zu verbergen. Am Anfang der Serie kehrt er aus Spanien zurück, wo er studierte. Diego versteht sich sehr gut mit seinem Adoptivbruder Bernardo und dieser unterstützt ihn auch tatkräftig als »kleiner Zorro«.
