Ashley ist der Sohn der Crichton-Familie und Julias älterer Bruder. Er gilt seit dem Anschlag auf seine Familie als tot. Er hat jedoch mit Hilfe eines Steins der Weisen überlebt, den seine Eltern heimlich herstellen konnten, und seither als verdeckter Colonel die Geschichte beeinflusst. Er ist auch Herr der Chimären, die er für Julias Schutz einsetzt. Doch der Stein sorgt schließlich dafür, dass er vollkommen den Verstand verliert und seine eigene Welt mit seinen eigenen Regeln erbauen möchte.
Was ihn letztendlich an seinen Wurzeln festhalten lässt, ist der Ohrring, den er stets bei sich trägt und dessen Gegenstück seine Schwester besitzt. Von seinen Eltern hat er die beiden Alchemien für Blitz und Eis erhalten.
