Matabei ist ein Untergebener von Yagyu Hyoma und in dessen Auftrag organisiert er ein Attentat an Kisshoumaru und engagiert dafür zehn Ronin.
In dem was er tut ist er sehr selbstsicher, doch bemüht er sich bestens darum, selber nicht in Gefahr zu geraten und beobachtet seine geplanten Attentate lieber aus sicherer Entfernung, während er die Arbeit seinen Männern überlässt.
