Soras Interesse an Schiffsmaschinen geht bis in ihre Kindheit zurück, als sie zusammen mit ihrem Vater häufig an der Maschine seines Bootes herumgeschraubt hat. Da sie eine Tätigkeit als Ingenieurin auf einem Kriegsschiff anstrebt, hat sie sich an der Yokosuka-Meeresakademie eingeschrieben.
