Gaku wuchs in einer wohlhabenden Familie auf und erbrachte in der Schule gute Leistungen. Daheim wurde er jedoch regelmäßig von seinem zwei Jahre älteren Bruder verprügelt, bis dieser im Alter von 13 Jahren anfing, sich an Mädchen im Grundschulalter zu vergehen. Gaku diente ihm dabei als Komplize und im Gegenzug blieben die Prügel aus.

Dem elfjährigen Gaku fehlte jegliche Empathie und Sympathie. Dennoch wurde er in Klasse respektiert und viele Mitschüler suchten Rat bei ihm.
