Kyou ist Oberschüler im ersten Jahr, aber wegen eines Vorfalls zu seiner Mittelschulzeit wurde er zum Hikikomori, weigert sich also die Schule zu besuchen und lebt auch sonst ein sehr zurückgezogenes Leben. Seine einzige regelmäßige Gesprächspartnerin ist seine jüngere Schwester Kurumi.
Da er sehr an Musik interessiert ist, komponiert und erstellt er mittels einer entsprechenden Software Musikstücke, welche er ins Internet stellt.
Während der Serie findet bei ihm eine starke Charakterentwicklung statt.
