GAUS steht für Gravity Attenuated Upright Shell und ist ein Projekt des Kurobe-Labors. GAUS 1 ist die erste Gaus-Einheit und wird anfangs durch die zwei Piloten Tom Borden und Liu Shen Mei bedient. Es ist aufgrund der Daten, die aus dem Artefakt Kuromukuro analysiert werden konnten, gebaut worden. GAUS 1 ist mit einer Gatling-Waffe und einem Revolver-Messer ausgerüstet.

Um mehr Kampfkraft im Krieg aufzubringen, wurde GAUS 1 modifiziert. Durch die Modifikation ist der GAUS 1 dann u.a. nur durch einen Pilot steuerbar.
