Shinsanpei Aura kommt als neuer Rekrut in den Quinx-Squad und ersetzt somit Haise Sasaki und Ginshi Shirazu. Er ist generell ein schüchterner und höflicher Zeitgenosse, welcher großen Respekt für seine Vorgesetzten Kuki Urie und Tooru Mutsuki übrig hat. Jedoch bleibt er auch oft für sich und ist eher ein Einzelgänger, der gerne liest oder fischen geht.
Im späteren Verlauf wird deutlich, dass er sich hauptsächlich wegen seiner Rachegelüste dem Quinx-Squad anschloss. Er möchte den Überfall auf seine Tante Kiyoko Aura rächen, an welchem Ken Kaneki schuld sein soll. Er verbirgt, wie verbittert und zerfressen von Hass er eigentlich ist und wartet auf eine Gelegenheit, Ken zu vernichten.
