Als er noch jünger war, lebte Kakeru im Norden von Matsuroba Town. Er führte ein glückliches und zufriedenes Leben mit seiner Freundin Fuyumori, einem weiblichen Bokke. Doch dann fiel diese eines Tages in einen riesigen, brodelnden Kessel. Kakeru rief nach Hilfe, doch niemand brachte den Mut auf, einen Rettungsversuch zu wagen. Da Fuyumori eine natürliche Schwäche gegenüber Hitze hatte, starb sie, indem sie schmolz.

Von diesem Tag an schwor Kakeru, Rache am nördlichen Teil von Matsuroba Town zu nehmen und schloss sich dem feindlich gesinnten Süden an.
