Bevor sich Lum in Atarus Leben eingemischt hat, war Shinobu seine feste Freundin. Sie versprach ihn zu heiraten, wenn er Lum im Spiel besiegen und damit die Menscheit retten würde, aber ein Missverständnis legte stattdessen den Grundstein für bleibende Beziehungen. Lum stellt Ataru nach und Shinobu will von ihm nichts mehr wissen. Sie entwickelt dafür schnell Interesse an dem bald hinzukommenden, reichen und gutaussehenen Mendou Shuutaro. Auch zu einem kleinen Fuchs baut sie sehr viel später eine bessere Beziehung auf, als sie mit dem Lüstling Ataru je hatte.

Shinobu hat ein hitziges Temperament und entwickelt im Verlauf der Geschichte übermenschliche Stärke, die sich, wenn sie von Männern enttäuscht wird, um ein vielfaches erhöht.
