AnimeNation wurde 1995 gegründet und war lange ein führender Onlineshop für Anime und Manga sowie andere Produkte direkt aus Japan. Der Shop wurde im Jahr 2014 geschlossen. Die anderen Dienste wie Forum, News und RentAnime sind von der Schliessung des Shops nicht betroffen.

Im Jahr 2003 stieg AnimeNation unter dem Label AN Entertainment ins Animelizenzgeschäft ein. Bis im Jahr 2006 wurden drei Animes veröffentlicht; das Label wurde jedoch kurz darauf eingestellt.
