Ataru, like millions of other users, takes part in a social networking site known as Real Account. One day he is one of thousands who wakes up to find himself in the virtual world. Trapped, he finds the game has a few simple rules. If you lose the game, you’ll die in real life and all of your followers will too. If all your followers abandon you, that will kill you too.

Der junge Schüler Ataru, der wie Millionen andere auch auf der Plattform »Real Account« aktiv ist, findet sich eines Tages mit tausend weiteren Nutzern dieser Website in einer virtuellen Welt wieder. Erschrocken über diese Tatsache, findet er schon bald heraus, dass dieses »Spiel«, das mit ihnen hier getrieben wird, ganz simple, aber tödliche Regeln besitzt: Sobald man dieses Spiel verliert, verstirbt man auch in der echten Welt. Und wenn die Follower einem nicht mehr auf seiner »Real Account«-Seite folgen, so bedeutet es für denjenigen ebenfalls »Game Over« …

Cosa succederebbe se una piattaforma virtuale diventasse improvvisamente “reale” e fosse impossibile uscirne? Come gestiremmo le dinamiche interpersonali che impostiamo sui social network? È quello che si ritrova a vivere Ataru quando rimane intrappolato su Real Account, la community in cui conduce una vita parallela priva delle difficoltà e delle zone d’ombra che presenta quella reale... Un giorno, mentre è in compagnia della sorella Yuri, il cellulare di Ataru sembra disturbato da una strana interferenza. Un attimo dopo il ragazzo si accorge di essere finito dentro Real Account: la mascotte gli annuncia che il ritorno alla realtà avverrà solo al termine di una serie di prove crudeli in cui è in gioco non solo la vita degli utenti, ma anche quella dei loro cari...
