Tohma Nagasu se une al club de béisbol para poder ligar con las chicas, pero una lesión provocada por un accidente de tráfico le ha hecho perder toda su fuerza al lanzar. Sólo Kaede, manager del equipo, conoce su verdadero potencial y espera que Tohma pueda recuperarse. Un día, se celebra un partido amistoso contra el Instituto Wakasagi, liderado por el prometido de Kaede, Shohei Mizuku. El nivel de Mizuku es superior al de su instituto, pero se da cuenta de que en Tohma tiene a su verdadero rival. Tohma sale a jugar, pero aunque lanza muy rápido, sus tiros van desviados. Pero, Shohei retira su compromiso con Kaede tras causarle un gran shock el no poder batear uno de los tiros de Tohma. Tohma se entrena duro por Kaede para derrotar a Shohei, ya que el sueño de Kaede es llegar al Koshien y el de Tohma es conseguir llevarla.
