Jotei Ekaterina ist ein historisch detailgetreuer Manga, nach einer Biografie des Franzosen Henri Troyat über Katharina die Große, die durch einen Staatsstreich gegen ihren eigenen Ehemann, Peter III., 1762 zur Zarin von Russland wurde und bis zu ihrem Tod, 1796, das Land regierte. Die Geschichte erzählt von ihrem ausschweifenden Liebesleben und ihrem außenpolitischen Geschick, mit dem sie Russlands Machtbereich unter ihrer Herrschaft ausbaute und das Reich, wie kein anderer Herrscher vor ihr, durch Eroberungskriege stetig vergrößerte.
