Die Geschichte handelt von Ryner Lute, einem faulenzerischen Studenten der Roland Empire Royal Magician’s Akademie, dessen Mitschüler dem Krieg zwischen Roland und dem benachbarten Reich Estaboole zum Opfer fallen. Im Auftrag des Königs Sion Astal, zieht Ryner in Begleitung von Ferris Eris los, um die Relikte der „legendären Helden“ zu suchen. Auf ihrer Suche finden Ryner und Ferris allerdings heraus, dass sich ein tödlicher Fluch über dem Land ausbreitet.
