La acción se sitúa en el Tokyo actual. Iba es un auténtico campeón del Kendo y Kyôko es su prometida que ve como su futuro esposo gana combate tras combate y presenciando el respeto que le procesan a Iba.
Sin embargo, para Iba el Kendo no lo es todo, la disciplina que más le atrae es la investigación histórica y, actualmente, tiene una oferta para realizar diferentes estudios sobre La Ruta de la Seda que no puede rechazar. Kyôko, aunque triste por su marcha, entiende que este tipo de posibilidad profesional es única y ve partir a su prometido.
Todo transcurre con normalidad, hasta que después de varios días recibe la noticia de que su pareja ha desaparecido. Kyôko que no cae en la desesperación se arma de valor y emprende ella el viaje creyendo firmemente que su prometido no está muerto y se muestra dispuesta a encontrarle cueste lo que cueste.
