Sakutaro sta andando in Australia, ma la sua non è una semplice gita: porta con sé le ceneri di Aki, morta a soli diciassette anni di leucemia. L’Australia è la terra che Aki ha sempre sognato, ed è là che lui disperderà i suoi resti. Amare una persona significa pensare che lei viene prima di tutto, è questo che ha sempre pensato. Ma lei ora non c’è più. Pagina dopo pagina, entriamo nei ricordi di Sakutaro, assistiamo al suo primo incontro con Aki, agli appuntamenti dopo la scuola e al loro dolce avvicinamento. E infine alla malattia, al ricovero, alla disperata fuga dall’ospedale.
