Die unter göttlichem Schutz stehende Aristia »Tia« la Monique, Tochter eines Markgrafen und verheiratete Königin des Hauses Shana Castina, steht unter Anklage des Hochverrats. Sie wird zur Todesstrafe verurteilt, die ihr kaltherziger, von irrationalen Launen geplagter Ehegatte Ruvellis Kamaludin unter der Bedingung aussetzt, dass sie ihm die Füße küsst. Nachdem sie das getan hat, erfährt sie aber nicht nur, dass sie trotzdem hingerichtet wird, sondern auch, dass ihr Vater bereits hingerichtet wurde.

Nach ihrer Hinrichtung erwacht Tia im göttlichen Refugium, wo Gott ihr durch die Blume gesprochen erklärt, dass er sich geirrt habe. Tia erhält eine zweite Chance und dieses Mal, so entscheidet sie, soll ihr Leben nicht daraus bestehen, sich auf ihre Aufgaben als Kaiserin vorzubereiten.
