Saint Seiya narra la historia de un grupo de jóvenes guerreros denominados Caballeros (Santos), quienes luchan por proteger a la diosa griega Atenea de las fuerzas del mal. Para luchar, los Caballeros (Santos) sólo utilizan su energía interior (denominada cosmos), sus puños y armaduras que les sirven de protección y que además están inspiradas en constelaciones o seres de la mitología griega.

Durante un viaggio in Grecia, l’anziano Mitsumasa Kido incontrò un uomo in fin di vita, il quale gli affidò una neonata e un contenitore d’oro. Quell’uomo, il cui nome era Aiolos, prima di morire raccontò di essere uno dei cavalieri che difendevano la dea Atena, reincarnatasi nella bambina che portava con sé per combattere le divinità nemiche del genere umano. Il contenitore che portava conteneva l’armatura d’oro del Sagittario!
