In der Welt des Steampunks werden Maschinen nicht nur von Dampf angetrieben, sondern mitunter auch von Magie. Es gibt schwebende Inseln, Luftpiraten, Königshäuser und einen erbitterten Kampf um neue Territorien. Die Prinzessin Bijou Dupont aus dem Reich Valos lebt gemeinsam mit ihren Brüdern Kaine und Nazaire in einem schwebenden Palast am Himmel. Ihre Eltern starben bei der Katastrophe von Bael, wodurch Nazaire bereits mit 12 Jahren zum König gekrönt wurde. Seine Schwester ist ihm einige Jahre später ein Dorn im Auge und er gibt Admiral Vinge kurzerhand den grausamen Befehl Bijou zu ermorden. Mithilfe von Kaine kann die Prinzessin jedoch noch rechtzeitig fliehen und fällt buchstäblich vom Himmel! Sie landet auf dem berüchtigten Luftpiratenschiff Lobelia, auf dem für sie ein ganz neues Leben beginnt …
