Die Grundschüler Hatori Yuya und Sakisaka Mao sind Klassenkameraden derselben 5. Klasse und, könnten nicht unterschiedlicher sein. Hatori ist ein lauter, unordentlicher und wilder Junge, während Sakisaka ruhig, brav und ordentlich ist. Eigentlich kann sie ihn überhaupt nicht ausstehen, und doch geschieht etwas Unerwartetes – sie teilen einen Kuss miteinander.

Seitdem hat Sakisaka geschworen, kein Wort mehr mit Hatori zu wechseln. Jahre vergehen, und es gibt viele Höhen und Tiefen während der Mittelschulzeit, bis sie schließlich wieder zueinander finden und aufdecken, wie sie wirklich füreinander empfinden. Die herzerwärmende und manchmal herzzerreißende Geschichte wird abwechselnd aus Sakisaka Maos und Hatori Yuyas Perspektive erzählt und eröffnet dadurch eine völlig neue Sicht der Dinge.
