Mystic Musketeer (2021)

Ha Yiha is a competent and respected sniper in the army – at least he was until recently because, during the most mundane cleanup work, of all things, a box of old gunpowder exploded, leaving Yiha paralysed. Worse still, he is ineligible to receive disability compensation, and the regular pension is hardly worth mentioning, so an expensive operation is out of the question. His future looks bleak, but after making a deal with a strange being in a dream to walk again, he promptly awakens in a VR capsule given to him by his aunt.

Because his cousin makes him log in, Yiha dives into the virtual world of Middle Earth for the first time and is finally able to walk again. The basic training is easy for him, almost too easy, but when it comes to choosing a weapon and thus a class, his eye falls on the musket, an incredibly slow and apparently inferior weapon. However, as Yiha is abruptly kicked out of the game, he is now condemned to be a musketeer, an obviously terribly bad class – and the next opportunity for a new character won’t come for at least three months!

Even his first fight against wild rabbits becomes a farce: the accuracy is such a joke that he ends up having to lash out with his bare gun. And that’s not all: the ammunition is painfully expensive. Yiha doesn’t admit defeat, however, and even finds a few allies soon. His goal is clear: as a musketeer, he wants to shoot his way through this almost brutally realistic game to earn enough gold, and thus money, for an operation. But does he really stand a chance when the game balance seems to put him at a disadvantage ever so often?

Ha Yiha ist ein kompetenter und angesehener Scharfschütze der Armee – jedenfalls bis vor Kurzem, denn ausgerechnet bei profansten Aufräumarbeiten explodiert eine Box mit altem Schießpulver und lässt Yiha querschnittsgelähmt zurück. Schlimmer noch: Anspruch auf Invalidenrente hat er nicht und die reguläre Rente ist kaum der Rede wert, sodass eine teure Operation außer Frage steht. Seine Zukunft sieht düster aus, aber nachdem er im Traum mit einem seltsamen Wesen einen Deal schließt, um wieder laufen zu können, erwacht er prompt in einer VR-Kapsel, die ihm seine Tante geschenkt hat.

Weil ihn sein Cousin dazu bringt, sich einzuloggen, taucht Yiha das erste Mal in die virtuelle Welt Middle Earth ein und kann dort auch endlich wieder laufen. Das Basistraining gelingt ihm leicht, fast schon zu leicht, doch bei der Waffen- und damit Klassenwahl fällt sein Blick auf die Muskete, eine unfassbar langsame und augenscheinlich unterlegene Waffe. Weil Yiha auch noch unvermittelt aus dem Spiel geworfen wird, ist er nun dazu verdammt, ein Musketier zu sein, eine offenbar fürchterlich schlecht Klasse – und die nächste Gelegenheit für einen neuen Charakter kommt frühestens in drei Monaten!

Schon sein erster Kampf gegen wilde Hasen wird zur Farce: Die Genauigkeit ist ein solcher Witz, dass er am Ende mit der bloßen Waffe um sich schlagen muss. Und damit nicht genug, die Munition ist schmerzhaft teuer. Yiha gibt sich jedoch nicht geschlagen und findet sogar ein paar Verbündete. Sein Ziel steht fest: Als Musketier will er sich durch dieses fast schon boshaft realistische Spiel schießen, um genügend Gold, und damit Geld, für eine Operation zu erspielen. Nur hat er wirklich eine Chance, wenn ihn die Spielbalance so oft zu benachteiligen scheint?
