Der Junge Muoru wird zu Unrecht gefangen genommen und zur Strafarbeit auf einen Friedhof geschickt. Dort ernennt er sich selbst zum Grabwärter und trifft schließlich eines Tages auf ein wunderschönes Mädchen namens Meria. Während er nun seine Tage damit verbringt an der Stelle ein Loch zu graben, wo das untote Monster »Die Finsternis« begraben ist, bemerkt er, wie er sich mehr und mehr zu Meria hingezogen fühlt.
