Bei einem Flugzeugabsturz verlor der kleine Junge Ryouga seine Eltern und war der einzige Überlebende. Nun wird er von Albträumen verfolgt und in der Schule von anderen Jungs verspottet. Inmitten seiner Depression geht er auf ein mysteriöses Angebot von seltsamen Individuen ein und wechselt die Schule. Daraus erhofft er sich, von diesen zwielichtigen Leuten zu erfahren, wie und warum er den Absturz überleben konnte.

Angekommen in seiner neuen Schule, erfährt Ryouga, dass er sich mit 3 anderen Personen in einem Kartenspiel messen muss, bevor er als Schüler angenommen wird. Jeder hat eine Karte, die ein bösartiges Monster in sich trägt. Nur der Gewinner kann das Spiel heil überstehen - auf den Rest wartet ein grausamer Tod...
