1937. Der Zweite Japanisch-Chinesische Krieg bricht aus; die umfassende Invasion der Japaner in China erfasst auch eine kleine Theatergruppe, die wegen einer illegalen Aufführung eines patriotischen Stückes Ärger mit den Unterdrückern bekommen. Nachdem Tang und Shi Tzer zusammen mit den anderen Mitgliedern die übel auftretenden Soldaten niedergeprügelt haben und sich danach noch eine Grenzkontrolle durchbrechen, befinden sie sich auf der Flucht. Beide trennen sich zur Sicherheit von ihrer Truppe und finden Unterschlupf bei Feng Chi und ihrem kranken Grossvater. Doch die Gegend wird ebenfalls durchsucht …
