Ihm Jahre 1964 finden die Olympischen Spiele in Tokyo statt, woraufhin die Wirtschaft einen enormen Zuwachs verzeichnen kann und die Einwohner der Third Street durchleben die wandlungsreiche Phase mit ihrem gewohnt optimistischen Charakter.
Der Romancier Ryunosuke und seine Ehefrau Hiromi leben mit ihrem Sohn Junnosuke, der nun in die High-School geht und Kfz-Mechaniker Norifumi Suzuki betreibt mit seiner Frau Tomoe, seinem Sohn Ippei und dem Angestellten Mutsuko immer noch die Autowerkstatt auf der anderen Straßenseite. Über die Jahre ist der Laden sogar gewachsen. Aber dann erreicht ein Wendepunkt die Bewohner der Third Street.
