Coffee Prince (2007)

With her short hair and less feminine dressing style, Go Eun-Chan is easily mistaken for a man. Since her father’s death, she has been the breadwinner in her family and works several jobs at once. At her delivery job, she meets Choi Han-Gyeol, who also mistakes her for a man. Han-Gyeol is the grandson of the chairwoman of a large coffee chain called “Dongin Foods”. His grandmother wants him to finally take on responsibility instead of leading a carefree life with her money. As manager of a small café, the “Coffee Prince”, he has to prove that he can stand on his own two feet.

But it’s not just his very first job that presents Han-Gyeol with challenges. He has not yet found his way into love, either. He has been in love with Han Yoo-Joo, the ex-girlfriend of his cousin Choi Han-Sung, for years. After she leaves him without a word, Yoo-Joo suddenly turns up at Han-Sung’s house and wants to try a new start. Han-Sung also met Eun-Chan at her delivery job, and the two have become friends. While the negative memories of his relationship with Yoo-Joo still gnaw at him, Eun-Chan brings joy into Han-Sung’s life.

To finally get hitched, Han-Gyeol’s grandmother arranges dates for her grandson, which he doesn’t approve of. When Han-Gyeol meets Eun-Chan again, he comes up with an idea to scare off his dates: in exchange for a small sum, Eun-Chan should pretend to be his lover! The plan works, and Eun-Chan soon becomes the first employee Han-Gyeol hires at his café. But how long can Eun-Chan continue to pretend to be a man …?

Mit ihren kurzen Haaren und ihrem wenig femininen Kleidungsstil wird Go Eun-Chan leicht mit einem Mann verwechselt. Seit dem Tod ihres Vaters ist sie die Hauptverdienerin in ihrer Familie und übt gleich mehrere Jobs auf einmal aus. Bei ihrem Lieferjob trifft sie auf Choi Han-Gyeol, der sie ebenfalls für einen Mann hält. Han-Gyeol ist der Enkelsohn der Vorsitzenden einer großen Kaffee-Kette namens »Dongin Foods«. Seine Großmutter möchte, dass er endlich Verantwortung übernimmt, statt mit ihrem Geld ein sorgenfreies Leben zu führen. So soll er als Manager eines kleinen Cafés, dem »Coffee Prince«, beweisen, dass er auf eigenen Beinen stehen kann.

Doch nicht nur sein allererster Job stellt Han-Gyeol vor Herausforderungen. Auch in der Liebe hat er noch nicht Fuß gefasst. Er ist schon seit Jahren in Han Yoo-Joo, die Ex-Freundin seines Cousins Choi Han-Sung, verliebt. Nachdem sie ihn damals wortlos verlassen hat, taucht Yoo-Joo plötzlich vor Han-Sungs Haus auf und möchte einen Neustart versuchen. Auch Han-Sung hat Eun-Chan bei ihrem Lieferjob kennengelernt, und die beiden sind Freunde geworden. Während die negativen Erinnerungen an seine Beziehung mit Yoo-Joo noch immer an ihm nagen, bringt Eun-Chan Freude in Han-Sungs Leben.

Um endlich unter die Haube zu kommen, arrangiert Han-Gyeols Großmutter Verabredungen für ihren Enkelsohn, was diesem jedoch missfällt. Als Han-Gyeol ein weiteres Mal auf Eun-Chan trifft, kommt ihm eine Idee, um seine Dates zu verscheuchen: Für etwas Geld soll Eun-Chan sich als sein Liebhaber ausgeben! Der Plan geht auf, und bald wird Eun-Chan die erste Mitarbeiterin, die Han-Gyeol in seinem Café einstellt. Doch wie lange kann Eun-Chan sich weiterhin als Mann ausgeben …?
