Romantic Doctor Kim (2016)

As a young student, Kang Dong-Joo lost his father because of the rules of the society. His father was injured in an accident but not treated because a high-ranked politician was also a patient in said hospital, receiving treatment first while his father died in the waiting room. Dong-Joo wants revenge, but a doctor stops him with the words: “Revenge won’t give you anything. When you’re not changing the system, no one ever will.” Dong-Joo is impressed with the advice, and a few years later he finishes his studies with best grades. He starts in the hospital, but after five years he must realize that the system cannot be changed. In the end, a frustrated Dong-Joo causes a medical mistake resulting in the death of a patient, and he ends up in an old clinic at the countryside. There he meets his old colleague Yoon Seo-Jung, who disappeared after a car accident, and a highly talented doctor: Master Kim.

Als junger Schüler musste Kang Dong-Joo mit ansehen, wie sein Vater Opfer der Zweiklassengesellschaft in Südkorea wurde. So wurde ein Abgeordneter vor dem kranken Mann behandelt, obwohl dieser erst nach der Dong-Joos Familie ins Krankenhaus kam. Dies führte schließlich zum plötzlichen Tod des Vaters. Der wütende Dong-Joo sinnt daraufhin auf Rache, doch wird er von einem Arzt aufgehalten. »Rache bringt hier nichts. Wenn du nichts änderst, ändert sich nie etwas.« Die Worte des Arztes werden zu seinem Lebensmotto und Dong-Joo schließt Jahre später als Landesbester das Medizinstudium ab. Nur von der Moral getrieben stürzt er sich wie besessen in die Arbeit, doch fünf Jahre später muss er sich endgültig geschlagen geben. Das System kann nicht umgangen werden. Als ihm dann auch noch ein medizinischer Fehler mit Todesfolge unterläuft, wird er aufs Land in eine heruntergekommene Klinik strafversetzt. Dort trifft er nicht nur seine ehemalige Kollegin Yoon Seo-Jung wieder, die nach einem Autounfall spurlos verschwunden war, sondern auch auf einen unglaublich talentierten Arzt. Sein Name: Master Kim.
