Nachdem die Great Star League Gozma bereits Hunderte Planeten erobert hat, soll als nächstes die Erde das gleiche Schicksal ereilen. Um dies zu verhindern, gründet das japanische Militär die Earth Defense Force (EDF) mit Commander Ibuki als Oberbefehlshaber. Nach nur einem Tag jedoch haben die meisten Rekruten der EDF bereits die Nase voll von Ibukis grausamen Trainingsmethoden und brechen die Ausbildung ab. Kurz darauf greifen die Truppen von Gozma an. Lediglich fünf überlebende Offiziere leisten, obwohl schwer angeschlagen und erschöpft, weiterhin Widerstand gegen den Feind. Angesichts solcher Tapferkeit erzittert die Erde und stattet die fünf Helden mit der Kraft von fünf mystischen Kreaturen aus. Zusätzlich unterstützt durch militärische Technologie, ziehen die Changemen in den Kampf gegen Gozma.
