Wataru lebt mit seiner Frau Kotoe und ihrer gemeinsamen Tochter Shiori auf einer Viehfarm in Setana auf Hokkaido. Er hat die Rinderfarm von seinem Vater geerbt und betreibt nebenbei auch eine Käsewerkstatt. Er ist kein Fachmann was die Herstellung von Käse angeht und wird oft von seinem strengen Lehrer beschimpft. Trotzdem hat er eine gute Zeit mit seinen Kollegen. Kanbe, einer seiner Kollegen zog von Tokio in die Gegend und betreibt hier eine Schafzucht.

Eines Tages bekommt Wataru Besuch von einem Küchenchef eines bekannten Restaurants aus Sapporo. Dieser kocht mit verschiedenen Zutaten von der Farm ein Gericht und gibt ein großes Lob über die Qualität aus. Daraufhin kommt Wataru auf eine Idee. Er möchte ein Restaurant eröffnen, wenn auch nur für einen Tag, um so den Leuten Lebensmittel aus Setana näherzubringen. Für ihn ist es nicht gerade einfach ein Restaurant zu eröffnen, aber dann taucht aus heiterem Himmel Otani auf.
