In den letzten Jahren der Edo-Ära in Kyoto. Tajuro Kiyokawa hat seine Domäne verlassen und wurde so zum Ronin. Dabei kommt er gerade so über die Runden. Nun gibt es da noch Otoyo, welche ein Izakaya führt und Gefühle für Tajuro hegt. Jedoch ist Tajuro sich dessen nicht bewusst. Eines Tages taucht dann auch noch der jüngere Stiefbruder Tajuros Kazuma Kiyokawa in Kyoto auf. Dieser hat seinen älteren Bruder seit seiner Kindheit immer bewundert, glaubt fälschlicherweise nun jedoch, dass sein Bruder die Domäne verlassen hat, um das Tokugawa-Shogunat zu stürzen. Kurz darauf wird Tajuro von der Stadtwache aufgegriffen.
