Extra-ordinary You (2019)

Eun Dan-Oh attends class 2-7 at Seuli High School, comes from a wealthy family and suffers from a heart condition despite operations, but this is not supposed to be her only problem. One day, she suddenly experiences hallucinations, memory loss, spontaneous personality changes – and the sound of a book page being turned. While investigating these strange occurrences, she comes across a comic book entitled “Secret”, which allows her to see into the future. When Dan-Oh soon realises that this book contains scenes that took place in the same way, she gradually accepts the world she is familiar with is, in fact, a fantasy world and that she is a character in the story “Secret”.

Dan-Oh’s hopes of being at least one of the main characters are quickly dashed, as she is nothing more than a supporting character threatened with a terrible fate in this story. She finds out that the school cook, Jinmichae, knows all about the situation. However, she disagrees with her fate. When it is about to happen, she is saved by a mere extra character, the mute and nameless classmate Number 13. The two soon join forces to turn this scripted reality on its head, but also learn that this scenario is not the first of its kind …

Eun Dan-Oh besucht die Klasse 2–7 der Seuli-Oberschule, stammt aus reichem Hause und leidet trotz Operationen an einer Herzkrankheit, doch die soll nicht ihr einziges Problem sein. Eines Tages erlebt sie plötzlich Halluzinationen, Erinnerungsverluste, spontane Persönlichkeitswechsel – und das Hören eines Buchseitenumblätterns. Während sie diesen merkwürdigen Begebenheiten nachgeht, stößt auf ein Comicbuch mit dem Titel »Secret«, durch das sie unvermittelt in die Zukunft blicken kann. Als Dan-Oh wenig später feststellt, dass dieses Buch Szenen enthält, die genauso stattgefunden haben, akzeptiert sie nach und nach, dass die ihr vertraute Welt in Wirklichkeit eine Fantasiewelt ist und sie ein Charakter der Geschichte »Secret« ist.

Dan-Ohs Hoffnung, dass sie zumindest zu den Hauptfiguren gehört, wird schnell zerschmettert, denn sie ist nichts weiter als eine Nebenfigur, welcher in dieser Geschichte ein schlimmes Schicksal droht. Sie heraus, dass der Schulkoch Jinmichae alles über diese Situation weiß, aber mit ihrem Schicksal ist sie nicht einverstanden. Als sich dieses erfüllen soll, wird sie ausgerechnet von einem völligen Statisten gerettet, vom stummen und namenlosen Mitschüler Nummer 13. Die beiden schließen sich bald zusammen, um diese gescriptete Realität auf den Kopf zu stellen, lernen dabei aber auch, dass dieses Szenario nicht das erste seiner Art ist …
