Minami Sakuta ist im zweiten Jahr der Oberschule und Mitglied im Schwimmclub. Es gibt drei Dinge, die sie mehr liebt als alles andere auf der Welt: ihre Familie, das Schwimmen und den Anime »Maho Sakan Otome Buffalo-Koteko«. Durch Zufall trifft sie auf dem Schuldach Shohei Moji, der dort Zeichnungen zu ebendiesem Anime anfertigt. Er ist ein Schüler ihres Jahrgangs und Mitglied des Kalligraphieclubs.

Schon seit längerem beschäftigt Minami die Frage, was mit ihrem leiblichen Vater geschehen ist. Während der Sommerferien macht sie sich spontan auf die Reise, um ihren vermissten Vater zu finden. Shohei schließt sich ihr kurzerhand an. Unterwegs treffen die beiden auf viele verschiedene Personen und diese Begegnung sorgen dafür, dass sie nicht nur eine Menge über sich selber erfahren, sondern auch der Lösung des Rätsels langsam auf die Spur kommen …
