Ban Shogo ist ein begeisterter und arroganter College-Student aus Fukuoka, der ein erstklassiger Koch werden will. Nachdem er als Junior-Chef in einem kleinem Restaurant in der Nachbarschaft Erfolg hatte, geht er nach Tokyo, um seine Fähigkeiten in der renommierten Trattoria Baccanale zur Schau zu stellen, jedoch wird sein Stolz gebrochen und er fühlt sich hilflos in der Küche. Ban wird beschimpft, gerügt und geschlagen, aber er überrascht seine Kollegen mit seiner demütigenden und positiven Einstellung. Da er so eigenwillig ist, gibt ihm der Küchenchef den Spitznamen »Bambino«, der auf italienisch »Baby« bedeutet.
