Godzilla vs. Mothra (1992)

When a huge meteorite hits in the middle of the ocean, the researcher Kenji Andoh, the treasure hunter Takuya Fujito and his ex-wife Masako want to investigate the effects of the meteor impact. On a small island, they find a strange egg in a cave. There, two little fairies, called “Cosmos”, tell them that the egg belongs to Mothra, who had laid it there several thousand years ago after a battle with Battra. They take the egg to Japan to examine it more closely.

At the same time, Godzilla, the king of the monsters, is awakened by the meteorite – and on top of that, he sets off for Japan! But not only he but also the gigantic butterfly creature Battra reappears in Tokyo. Unfortunately for mankind, a Mothra larva also hatches from the egg out of the blue! Thus, the people of Japan are caught in the middle of a three-way battle between monstrous mutants, luckily with Mothra and Battra on their side! Though, is it really possible for such creatures to stand up for humanity?

Mitten im Ozean schlägt ein riesiger Meteorit ein und der Forscher Kenji Andoh, der Schatzräuber Takuya Fujito und seine Ex-Frau Masako wollen die Auswirkungen des Meteoreinschlags untersuchen. Sie finden auf einer kleinen Insel in einer Höhle ein merkwürdiges Ei. Zwei kleine Feen, genannt »Cosmos«, erzählen ihnen, dass das Ei Mothra gehört, die es vor einigen Tausend Jahren nach einem Kampf mit Battra dort abgelegt hatte. Sie nehmen das Ei mit nach Japan, um es dort genauer zu untersuchen.

Gleichzeitig wird Godzilla, der König der Monster, von dem Meteoriten geweckt – und noch dazu macht er sich auf den Weg nach Japan! Doch nicht nur er, sondern auch das gigantische Schmetterlingswesen Battra taucht wieder in Tokyo auf. Aus heiterem Himmel schlüpft zum Pech der Menschheit auch noch eine Mothra-Larve aus dem Ei! Die Menschen Japans sind somit gefangen inmitten eines Dreikampfs der Sauriermutanten – zum Glück mit Mothra und Battra auf ihrer Seite! Aber ist es wirklich möglich, dass solche Wesen für das Überleben der Menschheit eintreten?
