Ryou Shiranui ist ein Mitschüler von Kinji Touyama an der Butei High School (武偵高校), der vor allem durch sein blendendes Aussehen betört und eine große weibliche Fangemeinschaft hat. Seit dem ersten Tag waren Kinji und Ryou miteinander befreundet aufgrund ihrer gemeinsamen Tätigkeit bei der Assault (強襲科 [アサルト], für näheres, siehe hier) Abteilung. Ryou ist ein überaus höflicher Kerl und sehr zuverlässig. Darüber hinaus hat Ryou sehr gut ausgebildete Fähigkeiten in Sachen Nahkampf und Schießkunst. Wie jedes Assaultmitglied ist er standardmäßig mit einem Messer seiner Wahl und einer Handfeuerwaffe ausgestattet. Obwohl er so beliebt bei Frauen ist, hatte Ryou bisher keine Freundin. Seine Schusswaffe ist übrigens eine HK MK23 alias SOCOM von Heckler & Koch.
