Girlish Number (2016)

In “Girlish Number”, the saying “pride comes before a fall” seems to prove true once again: because the student Chitose Karasuma did not want to be dragged into the boring world of adults, she first attends a school for dubbing. Of course, she doesn’t want to leave it at that. After getting on her brother Gojou’s nerves until he gives in, she gets a job at his agency, Number One Productions. So nothing stands in the way of a steep rise in this industry … except for the harsh, sometimes bitter reality, for apparently nothing is granted to Chitose except for measly extra roles.

But that is about to change when she suddenly lands a big role and promptly suffers the next attack of arrogance. At the first meeting, she meets her former classmates, Yae and Koto, and learns that things are not that simple: the three are to work together and even record a CD. Chitose quickly realises that she knows less about the whole milieu than she thought and that she should overcome her pride rather quickly if she wants to continue to exist in this environment …

In »Girlish Number« scheint sich der Spruch »Hochmut kommt vor dem Fall« einmal wieder zu bewahrheiten: Weil die Studentin Chitose Karasuma auf gar keinen Fall in die langweilige Welt der Erwachsenen gezogen werden wollte, besucht sie zunächst eine Schule für Synchronsprecher. Dabei will sie es natürlich nicht belassen: Nachdem sie ihrem Bruder Gojou so lange auf die Nerven gegangen ist, bis dieser nachgegeben hat, erhält sie einen Job in dessen Agentur Number One Productions. Somit steht dem steilen Aufstieg in dieser Branche ja wohl nichts mehr im Wege … bis auf die schonungslose, zuweilen bittere Realität, denn scheinbar ist Chitose bis auf mickrige Komparsenrollen nichts vergönnt.

Das soll sich allerdings ändern, als sie doch unvermittelt eine größere Rolle an Land zieht und prompt den nächsten Anflug von Überheblichkeit erleidet. Beim ersten Treffen trifft sie auf ihre vorherigen Mitschülerinnen Yae und Koto und erfährt, dass die Dinge nicht ganz so simpel sind: Die drei sollen zusammenarbeiten und sogar eine CD aufnehmen. Chitose muss schnell feststellen, dass sie vom ganzen Milieu doch weniger Ahnung hat als gedacht und dass sie ihren Stolz eher schnell überwinden sollte, will sie in diesem Umfeld weiter bestehen …
