Synopsis

Middle school student Kai Ashimoto has been living with his grandfather in the small fishing town of Hinashi since his parents divorced. Some time ago, his grandfather told him legends of mermaids who supposedly prey on people near Mermaid Island. Since the separation of his parents has taken a heavy toll on the boy, however, he spends most of his time alone and only finds a little joy in uploading his composed music pieces on the internet.

Normally, Kai tends to avoid other people. However, his classmates Kunio and Yuuho, who have formed a band, become aware of his music videos and eventually convince him to go to Mermaid Island with them to rehearse something in peace. On the island, Kai meets the young mermaid Lu, who later seeks him out in his room and is very different from the monsters from his grandfather’s stories. Lu is attracted to his music, and the two get along splendidly. Kai even feels so comfortable in her presence that, at some point, it becomes possible for him to open up. But will their friendship lead to trouble?
