Synopsis

In Children of the Sea, the anime adaptation to Daisuke Igarashi’s manga of the same name, we follow the young Ruka into the summer holidays. When she was still a little girl, she often saw a “ghost” in the water of the aquarium where her father works. Even today she still feels strangely attracted to the aquarium and the fish there, which is also due to the two mysterious boys she meets there. Umi and Sora—as they’re called—are the best swimmers Ruka has ever seen in her life. They seem to be flying, so fluid and elegant are their movements. But the two boys have a secret: they were raised by dugongs!

Umi and Sora quickly make friends with Ruka, because they too can hear the strange calls from the sea, which also lure Ruka to the water again and again. While Ruka’s father and the other adults don’t notice anything, the world soon finds itself confronted with a frightening anomaly: Everywhere on Earth the fish disappear …!

This isn't a movie you should read about
and neither is it a movie I should write about.

It's a movie that needs to be experienced.
Go and experience it.

It's conveyed almost entirely through animation.
If all other anime were even just half as well
animated, how wonderful that would be.
