Nishihara Toru ist ein ziemlich gewöhnlicher Typ mit Teilzeitfreundin und einem langweiligen Eisenbahner-Job. Sein Leben verkompliziert sich, als plötzlich der »X Train« auf den Schienen auftaucht, ein Geisterzug, der alles zerstört, was ihm in den Weg kommt. Irgendwie scheint Toru über eine seltsame Kraft mit diesem Zug verbunden zu sein. Dies ruft einige gefährliche machthungrige Personen auf den Plan, die diese Kraft für ihre eigenen Zwecke missbrauchen wollen …
